Week 10- Exercise 23

My favorite exercises were deinitely learning how to edit my photos, as well as learning more about social networking sites. This program has affected my lifelong learning goals in that it has led me to realize that I really like learning more about new technologies and such that I didn't think I was interested in learning about. For use in the library, I think wikis would be a great way for the library community to interact with each other.

I enjoyed this program. Thanks!

Week 9- Exercise 22

Even though sites like iHCPL, LibriVox,and Wowio provide reading materials very quickly, I don't like audiobooks or e-books simply because neither gives me the satisfaction of holding a book in my hands and really getting to experience it. I do like how our library site offers eclectic, unique music choices that I've never heard of before; I've gotten a chance to check out music from other countries that I never would have gotten to otherwise.

Week 9- Exercise 21

I went to Podcast Alley and listened to a podcast called Free Talk Live, which I found very interesting. It was basically two guys ranting about the press, the government, etc. Podcasts are a great way to learn about differing opinions and viewpoints since many different kinds of people have podcasts.

I love giggling babies!

Week 8- Exercise 19

I think Zoho would be best for authors writing a Round Robin story in which one person would write a paragraph, then the next person will write a paragraph and so on. Since Zoho allows multiple users to access one document, it makes writing collaborations such as Round Robin much easier.

WEEK 8- EXERCISE 18

My concern with social networking sites is that so many people have left their sites unblocked as a way to try and make new friends. Honestly, I think it's best that all accounts and blogs be blocked and to just use those accounts to keep in touch with your current friends. The world wide web just doesn't strike me as the greatest place to make new friends, there are some crazy people out there. But if you stick with the friends you made in the real world and safely keep in touch with them on a blocked site, then social networking sites are a great, highly useful tool. I didn't have any preferences out of any of those sites because I have to admit that I'm old fashioned and would prefer to stay in touch with my friends either on the phone or in person.

WEEK 7- EXERCISE 17

When I was growing up, I had to do everything manually, I didn't even have a calculator. But now, technology has just entered and taken over every aspect of my life so that now I have become dependent on technologies such as the internet. It's just amazing the internet can do so many things leading us to no longer need to go to stores to shop, to no longer have to watch TV to see our favorite shows, to no longer need to own a Yellowbook to look up phone numbers, and even to no longer need to call Pizza Hut to order a pizza!

I wonder if the internet will one day lead to people to no longer need to go to the library to check out materials. But then what about my job?

WEEK 7- EXERCISE 16

I think its best to use Wikis as a social networking tool such as iHCPL Sandbox has done and let other more reputable means serve as research tools. Wikipedia, the most famous Wiki out there, has faced many many problems by trying to be a research tool because there's just too many people adding in their own ideas causing information to become skewed.

Thus, for library purposes a wiki should be used as a social networking tool for the library community to interact together, like a online book club.

WEEK 6- EXERCISE 15

I love the idea of library 2.0. If we cannot move on the same speed as the rest of the world the idea of having libraries may be useless. I especially like the article Away from iceberg because it explains this concept very well.

Week 6- Exercise 14

Getting a chance to look at the most popular blogs was the most interesting part as one blog that I went to called boing boing had an awesome article about the recent release of Soviet propaganda cartoon DVDs expressing what they used to think about America. I know that I would love to see those DVDs to experience a part of long ago history.

I've noticed that tagging programs such as technorati have the same benefits as other search engines like Yahoo when it comes to research assistance because if I were to enter a keyword such as global warming, I would find helpful websites on both yahoo and technorati. However, the two sites are different in that while in yahoo the yahoo staff dictates which websites pop up, in technorati, people just like me determine what will return.

Week 6- Exercise 13

I think this is a good tool for research assistance and just for fun. We can share our interests with someone else who has the same interests.

Week 5 Exercise 12

Now I understand how the program that the library provides to the patrons to keep track of their books works since Elf seems to serve a similar purpose.

Week 5 - Excercise 11

It's interesting to find out from the LibraryThing program that so many people like the same books that I do. It's great to be able to read their reviews and find out what they walked away with when they read the book and compare that to what I walked away with.

Week 5- Exercise 10

I used sign generator to create this image. It's so cool!!

WEEK 4- EXERCISE 9

I prefered Feedster and Technorati because these sites have tabs which is helpful to find articles on politics very quickly.Topix is the most confusing to use because it lacks tabs. I found a new news feed that I've never seen before, foxnews.com. I think I need more time to explore these sites before I compare them to get an idea about what site is best and what is worst.

WEEK 4- EXERCISE 8

I think it's cool to keep track of what you want to see this way.I went to the iHcpl participants blogroll and found I have many thing in common with some participants and not so much with others.

WEEK 3- EXERCISE 7

ORIGINAL PICTURE

EDITED PICTURE

I used Picnik to edit my picture.

WEEK 3 - EXERCISE 6

Since I do lots of travelling Trip planner intrigues me the most. Using this method I can plan my trips methodically, well in advance. I also like how it even allows me to schedule the exact time that I can visit attractions, arrive at restaurants, and check into my hotel. The Trip journal feture is also helpful as well as a fun way to remember precise details from my trip sort of like a diary.

WEEK 2- EXERCISE 4

Well, I've never really worried about sharing too much online since I've never had the opportunity to share anything online. I've never done anything that would require or expect private information such as MySpace or Facebook or anything like that. My thoughts about online safety are that it's all about common sense. Ask yourself this: Would I tell some random guy on the street this information? If you wouldn't, don't tell anyone on the internet. Even if they seem like totally nice people based on what they say, it could all be a huge deception.

WEEK 2- EXERCISE 3

I'm excited to start this program because I've never done something like this before. I think that it's great that this program will help us be better at our jobs by helping us better able to answer questions from patrons when they ask us questions about blogs and other new technologies.

As for learning styles, I consider myself a visual learner. I learn best when the teacher demonstrates something for me to see. Auditory learning is the hardest for me since it is so easy to lose track of what the other person is saying and daydream.
